Message from the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology
Rural Connections Conference
In many ways, Alberta’s first century was defined by our natural resources – our land, our forests and our energy. Alberta’s next century will be defined, not by what we have, but by what we know. Knowledge will be our most important commodity and post-secondary education will be the key to developing it.
As we make the shift toward this next-generation economy, we must continue to strengthen or commitment to the Campus Alberta philosophy. We must keep on working together to create a diversity of opportunities for Albertans and to make those opportunities accessible in even the most remote corners of our province. There’s no doubt that this is a big challenge, but I’m confident that we have the tools, the creativity and the passion to succeed.
This conference is a great way to build the connections between our Campus Alberta institutions and with our community partners. It’s a chance to examine the challenges ahead and share your perspectives and solutions.
As I’ve mentioned, knowledge will be Alberta’s greatest asset in the future. I hope these three days will expand your own knowledge and feed your passion for bringing post-secondary education to our rural communities.

Minister
