Highlights include:
- Alberta Advanced Education and Technology’s $2.9 billion budget for 2012 is in line with last year’s $3 billion budget. The reduction reflects the completion of some capital projects.
Post-secondary Institutions
- Campus Alberta grants to post-secondary institutions are increasing by 2 per cent over 2011-12 levels.
Student Assistance
- $200 million in scholarships, grants, RESPs and debt management tools
- $274 million in student loans will be available to approximately 53,000 students.
Innovation
- We are staying focused on building a knowledge-based economy. Our budget for innovation has increased by 3.4 per cent to $275 million.
- $216 million will be invested in Alberta’s priority research areas and technology commercialization through the Alberta Innovates Corporations. This includes:
- Technology Futures - $98.3 million
- Health Solutions - $79.2 million
- Energy and Environment Solutions - $22.1 million
- Bio Solutions - $16.7 million
