Highlights include:
Post-Secondary Institutions
- Alberta’s publicly funded post-secondary institutions will receive $2 billion in base operating grants in 2013-14. One of the highest rates of per capita funding in Canada.
- Operating grants to Alberta’s publicly funded post-secondary institutions have increased by 45.9% over the past ten years or 4.6% per year on average.
Student Aid
- $183 million in scholarships, grants, and debt management tools.
- $11 million for Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan grants as the program is phased out.
- $425 million in student loans will be available to approximately 58,000 students in 2013-14.
Innovation and Technology Commercialization
- There is $52 million budgeted in 2013-14 for innovation and technology commercialization aimed at enhancing Alberta’s global competitiveness.
- To strengthen the relationship between research and practice, responsibility for Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions will move from the jurisdiction of the Minister of Enterprise and Advanced Education to the Minister of Health.
- Operating support for the remaining three agencies under the umbrella of Alberta Innovates is $132 million in 2013-14.
