New Lakeland College chair designated

Edmonton... Doug Elliott, a successful agricultural producer and active community member, is poised to take on a new role as chair of Lakeland College’s Board of Governors.

Mr. Elliott was appointed chair by Dave Hancock, Minister of Advanced Education and Technology, on May 2, replacing outgoing chair Irv Pineau, who left in October 2004. College board member Jim Metherell has been acting chair since that time. Elliott is a farm owner and operator, most recently serving as a member of the Lakeland College Crop Technology Program advisory committee.

“Doug has shown great leadership as an educator, an agricultural producer and as an active community member,” said Hancock. “I am certain that he will continue the college board’s track record of providing outstanding leadership to benefit the students at Lakeland College.”

After receiving his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, Elliott began his career as an educator before becoming a farm owner and operator in 1970. Since then, he has served his community and the agricultural industry by leading various committees and groups, including Eastalta Co-op, Mannville Agricultural Society, Alberta Canola Growers Association, Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Prairie Canola Growers Council, The Canola Council of Canada, the Vermilion Seed Cleaners Co-op Association, and the Lakeland College Crop Technology Program.

Lakeland College is a board-governed public college within Alberta’s post-secondary system. Lakeland College has campuses in Lloydminster and Vermilion and a Learning Centre in Strathcona County offering programming in a number of areas to serve neighbouring communities in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
