Choosing a Post-Secondary Institution
Every post-secondary institution is different. Here are some questions you can ask yourself when deciding where to attend:
-
How important is the institution’s location? (small town or large city; close to home or far away)
-
Would I prefer a small, medium or large institution?
-
Would I prefer living on campus or commuting every day?
-
Would I like to participate in extracurricular activities? (school newspaper, student union, chess club)
-
Do I want to play intercollegiate sports?
-
Will I be eligible for a scholarship from a particular institution?
-
How does the tuition compare to other institutions for similar programs?
-
Will employers where I want to live recognize the credentials issued to me by the institution?
-
Can I start a program at one institution and finish it at another?
-
Can I take some classes online or through distance delivery?
-
Does the institution offer the support services I need? (tutoring, counselling, help for a disability)
-
Do I care that the institution is recognized, or its programs approved, by the Government of Alberta?
-
Is attending an institution with religious affiliations important to me?
-
Can I find out more information about the institution by attending an open house, participating in a student-for-a-day program or talking with a student advisor?
