Six Types of Institutions
There is more than one way to categorize Alberta's publicly funded institutions. Grouping them by name or enabling legislation resonates with many people, but it doesn't reflect their diversity or how Campus Alberta has evolved over time.
The Roles and Mandates Policy Framework, which was released in 2007, introduced a Six Sector Model which provides more clarity on the contribution each institution makes in building Alberta's knowledge-driven future. Learn more about each type:
- Comprehensive Academic and Research Institutions
- Baccalaureate and Applied Studies Institutions
- Polytechnical Institutions
- Comprehensive Community Institutions
- Independent Academic Institutions
- Specialized Arts and Culture Institutions
