Publicly Funded Institutions

There are 26 publicly funded post-secondary institutions in Alberta. These institutions receive several types of funding from Innovation and Advanced Education and are governed by the Post-Secondary Learning Act.

Market Modifiers

Market modifiers are meant to correct market anomalies in the price of tuition for specific programs compared to comparable institutions in Alberta and other provinces.

Following an extensive review, government has approved tuition increases in 25 programs across Campus Alberta. These changes impact less than one per cent of all programs in Alberta’s post-secondary system.

When fully implemented, approximately eight percent of full-time Campus Alberta students will be affected by the approved market modifiers. Existing students in the approved programs will not be impacted by the increases.

Market modifiers were introduced in 2010 as an amendment to Alberta’s Tuition Fees Regulation that allows institutions to increase tuition fees for specific programs above the rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
